SEO Finance and Making a Fortune is now my goal

Good day to one and all reading this blog. I have violated the cardinal rules of successfully driving traffic to your blog site and using SEO to generate revenue, I have not been consistent in my blogging and posting efforts. This is the greatest failing, besides just old or stolen content, to a blog. New, fresh content is key, updating a couple of times a week is key, getting the word out there in the blogosphere is key, having patience and methodical in updates and consistency is key, these are all things I have failed to maintain in a consistent fashion.

Still there has been some very slight and scant traffic. Pulling the traffic data from the last month shows this. Pulling the total data for Analytics shows there has been some movement, so all is not for loss. There is still time to pull myself around, learn more SEO, apply it here and be explicit in stating just what I am doing and see how well it all works out and share it with those that find me.

Saw one of the most inspirational movies for this activity not too very long ago. Julie and Julia, the movie about the woman that spent a year cooking her way through The Art of Cooking by Julia Childs, and blogging her way through it as well. The story is awesome, the movie is superb, and with my spirit having lagged, it is uplifting to use that write for a living, for a hobby, for our futures.

I heartily recommend watching the movie, should be out in DVD fairly soon. The trials of Julia Childs getting her book written is inspiring for illustrating dedication, and a post a day for an entire year seems daunting to the staunchest of us all.

I have a goal now, in my writing and blogging, affiliate sites and programs, and in Adsense revenue, etc. It is $200,000 in US Dollars between today and 12/31/2010. This will cover all the issues in my life, making it so much simpler for me. So come on, lets see how far towards my goal I make it.

An interesting item, in the traffic to a few other sites I have up, the traffic is increasing coming in from the Yahoo Search Engine instead of the Google Search Engine. In the long term so far Google is the greater provider of traffic, but Yahoo at times will surge ahead. I often think I need to research how Yahoo ranks and conducts their traffic items, and see if I can target Yahoo instead of an overall SEO sense, bringing in a more focused approach, which in niche markets is key, but this is such a large scale general market for this blog I hold little hope to pull in much from it, more an exercise and practice in adding in keywords like seo and marketing, without the overwhelming glut I personally see on most sites (and the little SEO article writing I have done had to create for others) that is just a sense of overkill. Enough on that soapbox.

Welcome back, and remember you want at least 300 to 500 words per posting, Google hits on it better once you break 300 words, and 500 words is a page of normal paperback fiction, give or take, suiting the reading speed and pace of the Internet.

Hello to my fine readers
I know you are out there, I see you in my Google Analytics

Which shows, even with months of no updates, no new information, the content is there and it is bringing in traffic to my blog here.

Well it has brought in 18 some visitors in the last week. None clicked on my adsense ads so no revenue was generated, but I had traffic.

So the word is, update your content, write more, post a couple times a week and the traffic will arrive. It just takes time and dedication.

Ahh the joy of company. As much as we love them, it is so fun to sleep on the air mattress in the living room too.

So all of my content creation, all of my blogs, have been lacking in content and update these last few days. So here on a nice Sunday early afternoon, I have sat down to do some writing.

Not too many hits on this blog in the last week. Absolutely none in the horror keyword oriented one. Proof again of what I keep reminding myself, fresh, new, update, all the time to bring back the customers, or just readers.

In the last 7 days on Adsense, total ad impressions is 1. So no traffic.

So yesterday I got 2 hits on this blog, a new visitor. I think it was the person that left the advertising comment to go hit his site where he allegedly makes $40k a month. His keyword search on Google, per Analytics, was Adsense Money. So my keywords in here are starting to work. No one has clicked a single Ad yet. meaning no money for me made yet.

On one blog on this same topic, foolish me I did not bookmark nor Stumbled It, so I have not relocated it. But he has screen shots of his traffic and Adsense earnings. A huge part of the inspiration to do this blog. So his observed trend was when his traffic was under 3,000 views (a day I think wow) his payout percentage and click rate dropped dramatically. So using that model, it is the shotgun method. Pull the trigger, send a spray of lead towards the target, eventually something will strike. Same principle, the more that show up, eventually someone will see something they want to click and voila’ Adsense revenue.

So I have good keywords to get traffic. Now to improve rank, more content, some relevant images, and give it time. The blog that inspired this, he said it took a good 2 years to get to that traffic level. This one is less than a month old, long ways to go.

It is the middle of the week

Do you know how well your sites are doing? Well sadly enough I do know how well mine are doing. Adsense and Analytics lets me know that only when I post to my site, do I get traffic coming to it. Need to tighten it up, need to narrow the focus, to tighten up the ads being shown to increase the likelyhood of them being clicked, adding to my Adsense Money and making enough to get a payout.

Or I can go the affiliate route, pull an ad from Clickbank and post it right now, here in this post, and we can see if anyone finds the offer of interest. Totally blatant about it, but let us not fool one and another, many if not most of us, want to generate some extra income. I am just being upfront about it.

So if you are reading my blog here, go ahead and click on links and affiliates that are of interest to you.

Content and Updates are King

Proof positive

The only changes to my Adsense and Analytics happen on days I update this and the Horror Oriented blogs. So 5 days of life and being busy proves what others and I have said and thought for years.

In stores, especially small hobby oriented one (an excellent analogy for most blogs) in those stores if there is not new cool things to look at, touch, pick up and wish about and then to buy, if there is not something new to look at each time you walk into it, then pretty soon there is no reason to go in there.

Used bookstores understand this to survive and there is a constant revolving inventory that exists to tempt us to swap or buy.

So content is king and queen and the whole kit and kaboddle. Yes Social Media, Keywords and Density will aid in getting an initial indexing. Yet if there is no reason for anyone to return to visit, why should they?

So that is the short post for today, I hope all your finances are in order, change is coming in the form of the stimulus package and right now is the time, if you are a small business, right now is the time to position to work on government projects.

The weekend was not one for me to do any real updates. There were things going on that really kept me from focusing on my writing, and finance of life quest. I did pick up the May 09 issue of the magazine. Lots of good tips in there, I am thinking of pulling out the highlights, the bullets, rephrasing and posting at my desks at work and home to remind myself of steps to take towards financial security and freedom.

Speaking of which, looking into Forex Trading. Foreign Currency buying and selling. Some field of investing I had not heard of until a few days ago, and something to investigate to see what the entrance fees, the costs to do business, etc would be. If they are minimal to nothing than a potential sideline besides Adsense and Ad Dollars though Google will be looked at.
One thing I do not have in my economic quest are multiple streams of passive income. I have one active stream, the wife has one and has started a consultant (Parties with products model) as well for her second one. I need to set up a good second passive stream. This blog on SEO and Financing was to be one. The pace is slower than I want, even knowing it might take years and some luck to make it happen, still it is slower than I want. Slower than the extant bills want. So time to look at other models as well and see which, if any, fit within my personality and motif.

4 different keywords with 1 view each. Meaning no real difference.
The keywords are:

seo finance

The bottom two are easy, title of the blog and in every post more than once.
The 2nd one can be deduced to related to my idea, my keywords, especially the location.
The first one I have no idea on. Might be something to look at in Market Samurai and in general, Google Trends, etc.

The slight amount of hard data available out of the way, time to discuss the current efforts. I checked early on the AM on 02/19/09 and this blog is indexed on Google. Here in a few moments I am going to check out Yahoo also to see if it is indexed there. So now it is time to refine the keywords. Well this blog is not indexed on Yahoo.com for their search engine. Used to be so easy to submit sites to search engines. My time away from web design has cost me that knowledge. Time to reclaim that in the next few days, all to the good.

Well there is some validation to good keyword selection. Day 2, 1 small post, and already the start of traffic. Now it is not a lot of traffic obviously. 2 whole views, but it is a beginning. So the first week or so should tell the real story, whether selecting the keywords of Horror and Gothic and related ones will make a difference. It is a smaller niche, not very though, than SEO and Finance is for this purpose. So the first week should make a difference as I said.

So chose a niche, check some keywords, and add content, add in some patience.

Well at least by putting them in each day I have something to write about. But it does show the slow and methodical method is not the way to fast money and quick riches.
Instead it takes time, time to build some content, time to build some credibility, time to build a readership and to have the ads from Google to show up as the most relevant and then for people to go and CLICK ON THE ADS TO MAKE ME MONEY. There that was nice and covert was it not?

Market Samurai and Horror
So time to test the waters with the keywords identified yesterday
So they are Horror, Horror Story, Horror Genre, Gothic Horror, Sci Fi Horror, Gothic
Two other good keywords are Dead and Story, not sure if I will include Dead but I will include Story.

So to make a new blog or to make another public sort of page, along with content creation, as the keywords are identified.

I want it tied into publishing and publications, as I like to write stories. So a horror oriented story site of some kind is the logical test bed for this experiment. This works also as a friend of mine from High School is thinking a collaborative story site looking for stories to publish would be nice. Seeing as he was the one that got me to thinking about becoming a writer it is poetic and appropriate. So a horror story site is what I am going to make next. I have a short story blog up, but it is hosted on a blogging site, not one that I can add in my own keywords or tracking, so a new blogspot is in order. I can Adsense, Analytics, Add in Widgets all easy enough, tie it to this email address so I have the same dashboard for it. I will also add in Amazon Affiliate content since I have an account established there as well. No hope on any purchases, still it adds to the content level of the blog which should help with Google indexing the site, which has yet to happen for this blog actually, so more work here is needed.

So the next aspect, I have my keywords, my target niche, it looks to have potential based on the lowest fastest Keyword Research via Market Samurai, next up is content. I have to have some content to put into it and also a plan to update it and keep it fresh. Borrowing from another site I will use some other RSS feeds to add in a sense of changing content, finding ones pertinent to the keywords is very easy in this case. Then more content is necessary.

I have just decided to make this a stand alone site, no ties to this one at all. So I will report the success on here.

So there is the state of my free trial. As an interest feature I checked the cost for me. A mere $149 to upgrade to get the rest of the features. Pretty cheap all things considered, but not what I can afford tonight. $1100 in car repairs in December and January prevents this from occurring.

So I went to check some keywords. Chose Horror, as this is one of my favorite genres to read, and advice on Seth Godin's blog suggests to dominate a small niche instead of work in a large one (opposite advice to what this blog is of course) so I chose Horror. Not a small niche to work to over dominate. ( I get his blog posts in my email and despite wanting to get it to nothing, I save all of his blogs.)

So I put the keyword Horror in, told it to generate keywords, removed all then had it show removed again, so I could select several other keywords. Selected among others bus horror, mirror horror, sci fi horror, and a few more.
Had it compare keywords, and that pulled up the SEOT rankings (SEOT standing for SEO Traffic). I did not select the Adwords or Competition to begin with. However I selected Commerciality. It goes to show Horror is a great niche for money in theory, but there is a ton of competition. So next step is to narrow the focus.

State of the Blog, now that the Stimulus Package has passed

Good evening and welcome to the SEO Finance blog where I am working to finance my life and support my family by blogging about how I am going to do it via Internet Marketing and the use of Keywords and SEO to help me out.

So the stats are as follows
Adsense 42
Analytics 21 visitors, 36 visits, 53 page views
Revenue = $0.00 so far

Not a whole lot of increase here. The average are 6 per day. A far cry from what I want it to be at. So time to plan and work a little more.
There is a twitter account associated with this blog. So more postings there, 3 total updates there. So more posting, also looking for followers will aid there.

So that is the next step. Drum up more traffic and work to capitalize on the soon to be inflating fake economy supported by the Stimulus Package. But all to the good, as soon as it flows this way to pay my bills and take care of my family.

The next two years are critical. The more I watch, the move I see the movement, the more I believe that total meltdown can be averted, if the next two years pan out correctly.

That said the visits are slowly picking up for my SEO based Finance oriented blog. The hits are increasing, the traffic is picking up a little bit. I feel the keywords are fine, just that everyone one else and their brother is using the same ones. So instead of going for a niche, this blog dove into the crowded deep end of the SEO pool. It was done deliberately though. The intent is a rough slow start, but once it picks up, then the majority of traffic is there. Very deliberately done.

So as traffic increases, the likelyhood of ad clicks will also increase. The content helps to determine the ads presented, so by always discussing how I am using Internet Marketing to make money the ads should optimize for what I want them to do.

That is the plan.

Well the slow approach is feeling way too slow for my tastes. Almost a week now, still sitting without being indexed on Google, also checked out Yahoo and not indexed there as well. So time to step it up a notch.

This shows, as a part of this experiment in financing my life via SEO and Internet Marketing, that just waiting for it to happen, as week one has been, will not be the key.

So with this realization comes the change in focus. The first week is pretty much done, and still sitting at 39 total Adsense hits, a total of 21 visitors, 33 visits, and 50 page views on Analytics as of early evening on 02/14/09.

So the slow let it happen on its own method will not work. Proof is in the pudding. So starting with this post is more Keywords, increase the SEO Finance and Financing my life with Internet Marketing, will increase. As well as adding and finding more places to link and back link.
Time to step it up a notch.

Use that for inspiration. Anything you can get your hands on can be a weapon in the battle against the current economy, against the forces standing against you, you just have to figure out how (holding it right) it will assist you.

With that said lead into this morsel of information.

So over here, at Michelle MacPhearson's site talking about Internet Marketing and Social Marketing for SEO she has a link to a video basically stating that Google will be looking at sites from a content perspective. Hmm, At least I was a day or so ahead of that video.

So what does that mean for me. Well not a whole lot. I am already walking this path in my quest for SEO Financing my life and paying my bills, so this does not change my course. It does drive me to consider my path a little more, to do some more planning, currently just winging it really. So that said some statistics then off to write in another of my blogs, one of fiction the other on travelling.

Up to 21 visitors, 31 visits, to this blog per Google Analytics. Not a bad start I still feel. It shows that I do need to get more out there. There are so many blogs to read, it is no wonder that so many languish and never take off. So while patience is a strong suit of mine, I am working to improve this by more content. More writing and posting to keep it going.

I did check and it is not indexed yet, no worry on my end. Eventually it will be, and once it is, it should improve easily since I will already have writing in it. Hence my low concern.

Coffee, Strawberry Ice Cream, Dogs, and The Full Moon

So a section of disjointed items it appears. Instead they are things surrounding me right now. We are talking about context and content. How do I see the two of them fit in together to aid me in SEO, Financing my life, making it better for my family, as well as bring, not drive, but bring traffic into this blog site as well as my other vanity and home based business sites as well. This is the question of the evening.

So far the SEO aspect is pretty textbook. I have keywords, I keep mentioning them in my blog posts to get the keyword density up, I have put some (not all) social bookmarking sites into play, so the core steps have been taken.
Now I honestly believe this needs to be treated like a small curio or hobby oriented shop.

Once again I direct you to go read Seth Godin's blog. Today he postulates why fight to be a dig fish in a big pond, to instead, as he states, overwhelm a small niche and dominate it instead.

So instead of the Wal-Mart approach, everything to everyone, instead an approach tight, focused, with depth instead of shallow breadth, is the route to run.

So back to the opening sentence

Used a leafblower to rake leaves tonight

So what does that say. It means just what it states. At 6:30 after eating,doing a load of laudry, I went out into the yard, put my MP3 player on, grabbed my leafblower and got over half of my yard raked up in about 35 minutes.

Using that is my preferred method to rake. A lot easier on my arms and back here coming up at the end of my 2nd generation wandering the planet. So for a little fatigue in my hand only, and music I like or made in my head, I can get yard work done a hell of a lot faster.

An unconventional approach, one that most people would not think of. Instead a leafblower is to remove leaves from sidewalks, drives, etc. Not get them into a large pile to be scopped up with a shovel (again easier on my and with fire ants where I live a lot more prudent) and put into the trash can with a leaf bag in it. Again not the conventional way to do these things.

So what does that have to do with this blog, with SEO, websites, hits, making money on the Internet, supporting my family, what does it have to do with it. Everything.

As you look outside your house, read the paper (if you have one left) read the online news, watch The President on the TV last night, you have to realize that the conventional way of business, for the last 60 some years, no longer works.
We all have to come up with something unconventional to make it all work here in this new world.

So what did you do in an unconventional fashion that makes it easier on you?

So back to the links I posted last night. Which in a nutshell states that just having KEYWORDS, NICHE, SEO, Etc. will not cut it anymore. Instead you need content, and interaction with your customers, you clients, your visitors. Give them a reason to come back.

Well still looking for that hook here, but it will come to me, I have no fears there. See, what those links state I have said about stores and hobby websites for a long time. I just never put the two (2) together. Sometimes the most obvious lies under your nose so to speak, and suddenly it becomes clear.
Give something away for free.
Give people a reason to return, and the rest should work out.

If you have merchandise, nice clean store layout, stuff your customers want, then even when times are tough the loyal will patronize your shop. Why should the Web really be that much different in the core concept. After all we are people here at the keyboards.

Transparency of Purpose
The purpose of this blog is to generate income.
That is the open and transparent purpose to my writing in here, to my blogging on how to make money using Adsense, Analytics, and other tools along with just writing to bring in traffic. So the more traffic that comes here to read, the more likely some of the visitors will click on the Ad Links and generate income for me, which is the why for this blog.

Some other elements to this are working towards high ranks in Google as a search engine along with the other search engines as well. On some informative pages on a free service, a different service, I am noting that as the months pass, my pages on that service are getting more hits from Yahoo Search than for Google. So it is time to investigate the differences in the two search engines, to figure out why my writing style works better for Yahoo for Search Engine Placement, than with Google for Search Engine Placement. All a part of the function of the money making that is going on here.

So the parts are search engine optimization, including keywords, looking for better placement, updated and fresh along with relevant content, which is the foundation to making this work. There are other parts to Web 2.0 that I have yet to address. Elements such as the Social Networking and Social Marketing, Backlinks, and just getting the word out to the masses there in the vast depths of cyberspace, to wax poetic for a moment.

So this is effectively Day 2 of this blog. On day one a whopping total of 25 visitors that came to this blog. Not a very impressive number. But this is a building process, one that can take days, if not weeks or years to get up and running in an effective fashion. Almost all of those came from one single Social Media / Bookmarking site. So once I get this blog listed in a few more, which should increase the traffic potential. But the potential is useless unless there is something for people to read, and for people to click or to purchase. Affiliate Marketing, another aspect of making money on the Internet using Web 2.0 principles. That will be another day’s blog entry.

So since this is honest and transparent, let us do a swift word count to this point.
403 words, so well over the 250 some words that Google tends to prefer for an updated blog entry. So more tomorrow, seeing how this all works out.

This is just a simple blog on SEO and using it to finance my life and my hobbies of reading and writing. Nothing too fancy, nothing too complicated, a recitation of the steps I am taking and an accounting of how it is going so far.

So first up is blog title, keywords, choice of location for your writing, your website, your blog, what keywords to use and how to apply them.

So here are the steps taken in this financing of my life via internet marketing began here with setting up the blog.
As I want to get good hits I chose the title deliberately. I did not research the Keywords that would make up the title, this is a very overt endeavor. So I picked SEO and Finance, as that is what the blog is all about. SEO and money.
